The Journey Of Ms. Tywanna Pryor

"Everything you see on TV isn't as pretty as it looks" said Pryor. Ms. Tywanna Pryor is a former producer at WJAX/WFOX CBS news station . She graduated from Edward Waters College, which was the first HBCU in Florida where she majored in mass communications. She is originally from Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated in August with a masters degree in journalism from Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida.

While Ms. Pryor was in college she interned at WJXT. After college she worked two jobs, one as a bartender at outback steakhouse and the other at a news station. She worked in gainsville as a reporter for a short amount of time but was only making 19,000 dollars a year. She applied to her first job online that she found on google and got called 9 months out of college. Pryor signed a 1 year contract and produced the 4pm show and put a piece together for the 10pm show.

She also worked at KWES News West 9 in Texas. She noticed that being behind the scenes was better than being in front of the camera because that's where the money was. Ms. Pryor just recently had an interesting experience as one of world's most dangerous hurricanes hit (hurricane Irma). Staff had to work 36 hours, with no commercial breaks. They had 12 hours on air and 12 hours off air.

She had to spend 9 hours in a booth with other producers. There were 6 million people across the state of Florida that were without power. It took about 6 days to get power restored to the entire state. "Flood waters were higher than a desk" said Ms. Pryor. Once their staff went to different shelters to interview the hurricane victims, they ran into former professional American football quarterback Tim Tebow.

This was a big deal to get an interview from him because he is well known around the state of Florida. They were the only station out of the four stations in Jackson to interview Tim Tebow live. Even though Tywanna Pryor loves what she does she feels in order to be successful in this business you must be able to multitask, communicate and be a leader. She now resides in South Carolina as a communications teacher at South Carolina State University.
